Washington Slept Here

John Wright Stanly and his wife died in the yellow fever epidemic of 1789, and the house was empty in 1791 when George Washington was on his southern tour. The townsfolks, recognizing what a grand house it was, cleaned it up and put their own furniture inside for Washington's stay.
