Mandolin, Fruit Bowl, and Plaster Arm by Picasso in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, March 2008

Mandolin, Fruit Bowl, and Plaster Arm
1925
Object Details
Artist: Pablo Picasso (Spanish, Malaga 1881–1973 Mougins, France)
Date: 1925
Medium: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 38 1/2 x 51 1/2 in. (97.8 x 130.8 cm)
Classification: Paintings
Credit Line: Bequest of Florene M. Schoenborn, 1995
Accession Number: 1996.403.2
Like "Still Life with Mandolin and Galette" (1999.363.65) , this monumental still life was painted for exhibition at the fashionable Paul Rosenberg gallery in Paris. The large scale and muted colors of this work and others like it were admired by the same collectors who patronized modern architects such as Le Corbusier and furniture makers such as Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann, who adapted aspects of Cubism in their own work.
