Bronze Statuette of a Draped Man in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, February 2008

Bronze Statuette of a Draped Man in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, February 2008
Bronze Statuette of a Draped Man
Greek or Roman, Hellenistic or Early Imperial, 1st century BC- 1st century AD

Accession # 07.286.96

This impressive statuette shows a mature, bearded man who stands purposefully and looks upward. The cloak that covers his torso also conceals his arms, bent forward over his chest. Proposed identifications have linked him with the theater, specifically as an actor declaiming a text rather than playing a role.

Text from the Metropolitan Museum of Art label.
