This lintel originally stood in the temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahri, about a half mile west of the Ramesseum. The lintel dates to the joint rule of Queen Hatshepsut and her stepson / nephew, Thutmosis III. (See the red granite head of this ruler elsewhere in the gallery.) The three lines of hieroglyphs commemorate the names and principal titles of each ruler. Only the names of Thutmosis III remain. The names of Hatshepsut have been intentionally erased after the death of the queen.
