It will end killing the tree... but a nice photo with the ivy's fresh leaves.

I have the same problem in my garden Roger.............you just have to keep on top of it. Most of mine comes from the council owned land on the other side of my fence, which is normally pretty neglected.........but to be fair, they're underfunded and have more important things to worry about.
