Oh this reminds me so much of my lovely old grandad's garden Keith! He was very proud of his red hot pokers. It was such a pretty cottage and garden...now a road runs through it :(

WOOOOOO HOOOOO!!! Look at that stunner!! Absolutely GORGEOUS. Perfection in detail and dof, with a creamy, bokeh-tastic background to swim around in...sooooo lovely...

Reminds me, when Steve and I went on one of our hikes, we walked past a property that was covered with perhaps 400-500 of these flowers, all in the height of their bloom! We both fell over ourselves taking pictures, now I just need to process (at least) one! :D

I just love tickling your fancy, as we are a duet, you and I. :) Heh, what ever would your wife and my husband do if the pair of us were released into a magnificent garden in full bloom? Thanks Diane.........I've always thought of them as an "old fashioned" flower and I don't see them very often nowadays. I must get some for my garden next year!

It's similar for me. I associate them with the California craze in the 1950s for Mexican kitsch or tourist-ware. The deserts of Calif., New Mexico and Arizona were also very popular as design inspiration. My grandma (mentioned above) loved desert landscapes and I suppose that's why she was drawn to red hot pokers, cacti, sagebrush, etc. tinyurl.com/y5rm8xet
