The water is part of a seasonal river - it dries up every summertime! So the fence is only in the water for a fairly short time each year!

No floods Berny. The river is fed by the surrounding chalk downlands and will dry up when summer starts properly.

Thanks Rosa. The fence is also to keep dogs from going into the water after the ducks etc. Dogs are not allowed on the other side of the stream.

The part of the River Lavant that flows through the gardens is what is known as a Winterbourne - a stream or river that driies up in the summer months.

I seem to have missed this one last week its a glorious scene with some classic fencing to keep all but the most determined swimming sheep on the other side
