That's proper chilly !
I'm never sure about b/w in my own photos but the fact that other people's monochrome shots look so good ( like this one) makes me think again.

It was Colin.........a day or so before the snow hit us and I couldn't feel my fingers after about 10 minutes (until they started to thaw of course)! I quite like B/W images, but I sometimes struggle to get them looking how I want. Every now and them I crack it. Glad you like this one mate.
