Messerschmitt

The Messerschmitt KR200, or Kabinenroller (Cabin Scooter), was a three-wheeled bubble car designed by the aircraft engineer Fritz Fend and produced in the factory of the German aircraft manufacturer Messerschmitt from 1955 to 1964. The KR200 ran on a 191 cc (11.7 cu in) Fichtel & Sachs 2 stroke engine.
I spotted this one in Old Portsmouth.
Not this car, but a nice little video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=X82Fq43sutg gives you a better idea of the size of these little motors.
It has a lovely "face" as well.

"to reverse, the engine was stopped and then restarted, going backwards. This was effected by pushing the key further in the ignition switch than normal, whether intentionally or not. One result of this was that the KR200's sequential, positive-stop transmission provided the car with the same four gear ratios available in reverse as in forward movement."
No mention of the speed going backwards, but it looks quite complicated. Probably just quicker to get out and walk the back end roound :-))
Keith Burton club has replied to autofantasia clubIf you fancy one yourself, apparently you can pick up a nicely restored one for anywhere between £15.000 to £30,00.
