Oh my, but aren't these guys GORGEOUS and ADORABLE!!! I have never seen them in these beautiful colors and don't they just SCREAM, "I'M POISONOUS!" :D AND I am MUCH more jealous than Jörg! These salamanders are just blowing my mind!

I am so sorry to hear about the terrible hailstorm though, the poor garden!!

Thank you for this delightful picture, Karl. Did you know that about eight years ago I caught a baby California Mountain King Snake on our property in the late fall? I worried that because he was so tiny (8-9" and the diameter of my pinky finger!), he would not survive the winter so I took him home and Steve and I have cared for him ever since. Snakey McSnakerton is now a full-sized beauty at 4 feet and 100% incredible!!

Sie sind nicht sehr giftig, man sollte sie aber nicht auf die Hand nehmen, da sie giftige Hautdrüsen haben. Aber mehr als ein Hautausschlag wird nicht zu fürchten sein. Leider sind sie europaweit stark gefährdet. Sie kommen vorwiegend in Laubwäldern Zentraleuropas vor und sind auf ein sauberes Gewässer angewiesen. In meinem Fall ist es der Regenabfluss vor unserem Keller:) Ein Hautpilzbefall hat ihn in weiten Gebieten Mitteleuropas sehr stark dezimiert. Hoffentlich bleibt meine Sippe verschont.
