Lyons, Michigan, on the Grand River. It just seemed like a good day to visit a big dam.

Joan: So what you got planned for today? Joel: Well, there's this dam north of Portland. You'll be surprised. This dam is fifteen miles due north from our house (nearer Lyons than Portland, just for the record). Somehow I lived in Mulliken for over two decades before I discovered it. 'Twas certainly worth the trip, and one of my best 366 Snaps efforts. The dam, built in 1907, is part of the Consumers Energy power grid which powers much of lower Michigan. A few months later we'd be back, watching the water cascade through those gates with the river at flood stage . ========== This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps .
