The Charles E. Berg Building – S.W. Broadway between Alder and Morrison Streets, Portland, Oregon

The Charles E. Berg Building, also known as the Dolph Building, is an excellent example of art deco architecture in the heart of Portland’s Central Business District just a half block from Pioneer Square. Dating from 1930, the front of the Berg Building is a rich black and gold, with panels of cream and dark aquamarine panels high up. There are designs of sunbursts, spirals, rain clouds, and peacocks on the third floor, with a zigzag pattern at the top of the building. 18-karat gold runs throughout the building’s facade.
