Platanthera integrilabia (White Fringeless orchid)

I'm posting these images of a rare North American native orchid, because there is a move to have this species included in the federal list of Endangered Species. I took these images in August of 2003 on Starr Mountain in Tennessee. I believe they are now extirpated in from the only site for this orchid species in South Carolina - Greenville County.

Platanthera integrilabia (White Fringeless orchid)

Day trip to northwest Georgia with good friend and photographer, Alan Cressler. The target species was Platanthera integrilabia or White Fringeless orchid , which is globally imperiled and is listed as federally threatened. It is rare or presumed extirpated throughout most of its range. Turned out to be a very successful field trip day for the both of us. To check out the full trip report, please go to Jim's Blog .
