Liparis loeselii (Loesel's Twayblade orchid)

Last week, while we were looking for Liparis liliifolia (Lily-leaved Twayblade orchid) in the Pisgah National Forest near Breavard, North Carolina, I stumbled across this orchid. I believe it to be rare in the southern region of the Pisgah NF; in fact, it may be the southernmost location for this species in the U.S.
I photograped it several years ago in Manitoba, Canada, but up there, the flowers were more yellow. These flowers are mint green. It was exciting to find this one -- especially when I was not even looking for it...
We also found a very tall version of a rather odd-looking fern. I have just guessed at the identification, since I am not familiar with ferns.

A day trip to several sites in north Georgia. Five of us spent the day at a mountain seep hoping to see and photograph a couple of species of orchids, and a lake-side meadow for a group of rare Pitcher Plants.
