Pavement stencil, Stratford Broadway
There were lots of them around the area between the shopping mall and the town hall. Yes what, I wondered.

What is this current obsession with calling everything a village?

These yellow and green hire bikes have appeared in UEL's Stratford Campus, Romford Rd. Supplied by www.oybike.com/
Presumably the name is derived from "on yer bike".
Think I'd feel like a 2 wheeled advert if I was riding one as the placards on the back look like a permanent fixture. Bit offputting.
I wonder what they do about maintenance? Pneumatic tyres and cable brakes, unlike the street bikes in Helsinki (thinking back to 2001) that had solid tyres and back pedal brakes. Great fun on the cobbled streets...

from Romford Rd, Stratford.
Not strictly a street sign but the alley it pointed down didn't seem to have a name of its own.

My efforts to find out why this road was so called turned up the following:
This road was cut through from Stratford Broadway to West Ham Lane as part of the process of electrifying the tram lines between 1903-5. In 1937-40, trams were replaced by trolley buses which remained in use until 1960.
Found in British History On Line
I like the way the black has faded to red on this sign.
