Thank you Val - they're called Montbretia and I've got hundreds of them - they spread so widely and I've dug up more than I can count, but they still come back. Apparently they are called 'Falling Stars' and 'Coppertips' in the US. Another name for them is Crocosmia. Maybe you could find them in your part of the world. They can become invasive if you're not careful - but I love them so I really don't mind.
