Le chaume était autrefois monnaie courante sur ces plateaux du Velay et de la Haute Ardèche; désormais, comme tu le dis, on préfère la lauze. (Sans doute plus solide, plus durable et moins cher!!!)

Dans cette région, il y a bien longtemps, les toits étaient majoritairement en chaume. Maintenant, ils sont plutôt recouverts de lauzes du pays, ce qui est plus durable.
