L’église Saint-Nicolas est l’un des joyaux de l’art baroque alpin, construite durant la première moitié du XVIIIe, grâce aux apports financiers des colporteurs et des expatriés, partis dans les bas pays germaniques.
Cet art baroque savoyard est caractérisé par un extérieur sobre et un intérieur éclatant de couleurs et reconnu pour le « bleu de Saint-Nicolas » ornant les voûtes peintes au XIXe siècle.

une découverte ! j 'étais persuadé que le baroque n 'avait pas vraiment pris en France , or cet été j 'ai pu voir en Alsace une superbe église baroque construite sur le modèle autrichien , et aujourd'hui cette belle église savoyarde !

On retrouve le baroque "français" essentiellement en Alsace, en Savoie, dans l'arrière pays niçois et en Corse: des régions qui étaient à l'époque du baroque soit sous forte influence allemande (Alsace) soit pas françaises et sous dépendances piémontaise ou sarde (Corse, Savoie, Nice). Et ce n'est pas à toi que j'apprendrai que le sud de l'Allemagne et l'Italie comptent parmi les principaux berceaux de l'art baroque!

This church is a typical example of the Baroque style (18th century) that was in complete opposition to the simplicity and austerity of the Protestant temples of the time!
