Half the wood is done! We're late - hubby usually has this chore out of the way by mid-May. All our wood comes from our modest ten acre parcel; trees cleared to make pasture, trees that are too tall and in danger of blowing down, trees that have been compromised by ice storms or lightening or woodpeckers...hubby was in the logging business long ago, so he knows how to manage the forest like a giant garden.
This is just about enough wood to get us through the winter for the big stove. We still need to split up a couple loads for the cookstove (smaller and shorter wood we call "biscuit wood") and we'll be ready. We have no other heat source, so having the wood stacked and ready is a load off our minds. Be an ant, not a grasshopper!
