The Black Faced Doe

The Black Faced Doe
The Black Faced Doe hung around our place since birth, and stayed close after she'd had her fawn. So close that one day when my husband was mowing the field down back, he tossed a rock out of the way of the mower and hit the BFD in the guts with it! She was standing no more than ten feet away, watching him mow.
She had no fear of us or the mules, and would come right into our backyard. Even the dog got used to her presence, and never tried to chase her off.
She was shot last fall by hunters. We heard it happen; it was on our property line. The next day hubby walked down to the lower pasture, and Two, her fawn, came running out of the woods blatting at him. This happened a few times after that, and we sort of felt responsible for Two's safety. She disappeared this winter, and we hadn't seen her again until last night.
