Mother Stone

Sortelha IX
This historic village is one of the oldest settlements in the country. It developed from an occupation that began in the XII-XIII century, possibly from 1181, when D. Sancho I promoted the repopulation. D. Sancho II grants him the charter in 1228 and promotes the edification of the castle. It was seat of county until 1855, in which year it became part of the county of Sabugal.
The Visigoths replaced the Romans and this statue is far older than that but sorry I could not date it.
