Varino - Seixal

Varino - Seixal
From my time and my seas.
Varino was an ancient cargo-carrying craft, popular in the last century, iconic in the Tagus.
It had a bulky, heavy hull, 20 to 25 meters long, like its sister the fragata, but was considered more beautiful and grandly ornamented by hand painted round prow panels.
She had a quadrangular Latin main sail, and one or two headsails fitted on a slightly backward pointed main mast.
