Because the early lighthouse had an insatiable apetit for olive oil: no less than 12 liters per day in 1640 and thereabouts . . . huge reservoirs were provided and the means to warm it up in winter.Please see the bottom frame PIP.

The only thing that makes me doubtful is of my fault: I don't know if the French fries were already popular during those foregone years, if yes, the Cook had some hard talk to win the chief, commander, boss or maître . . . of the existing garnison !
