There was a time the when the Lake District National Park authorities insisted on having the old red telephone boxes painted grey, in the (mistaken) belief that they might spoil the scenery. But nowadays they don't seem to care anymore and allow tacky-looking BT boxes and all manner of other eyesore clutter.
