No, and apart from a few sharp bones, it was good. If I'd removed the head and bones AFTER frying it rather than trying to do so when it was raw, it would have been much easier. I'll know for next time.

How do you remove the smell from your kitchen?

Or from the whole house, even upstairs, when frying kippers, in spite of keeping the powerful extractor (right by the cooker) on full blast and my internal doors closed. I don't know how to remove the smell, but it fades and disappears after a couple of days.

No luck in finding Frank Randall's grave in Guildford today. The cemetery is woefully neglected, with no plan, signs or markers anywhere, so even though I knew the zone and plot number of the grave, I had no chance of finding it, even with the help of a local man who told me that others on similar quests have the same problem. But I did see Lewis Carroll's grave.

Natural cemeteries are best. Did you see the view of Southall gasworks?

The very place, though no bluebells there Saturday week ago. No; I didn't continue up the hill to the viewpoint because (as forecast) it was getting cloudy and my car park ticket was running out. And anyway I'd forgotten about the gasworks. Just wish I'd been more patient, waited around a bit longer; in spite of the forecast, annoyingly, the cloud lifted after I'd set off for home and I'd gone too far to go back. If I had, I could have done Shalford Mill as originally planned.

Are you sure you were in the right graveyard, as there's another one behind that wall?
And where did you park your car?

Yes, the "old" and "new" one. I looked in both. They're similar, and although both had a few military-style headstones dotted around, it was like looking for a needle in two large, neglected and overgrown haystacks.

You have to do things the hard way! There's a small layby just above the entrance to the higher cemetery.

I'd still have had to climb the hill because I went to Guildford also to get a (digital) picture of the castle grounds at tulip time (I didn't because this year they're white and neither the bedding plants nor the tree blossom were in bloom, making the scene pretty well colourless) and to get a shot of the Dutch-gabled house opposite Castle Arch, at which I'd had 2 attempts in the past. Last time (at the end of a walk from Guildford to Compton) the sun sunk behind the (cemetery) hill just 30 seconds before I got to the top of Castle Street. But success this time, albeit from a different (and better) POV than the intended one, the latter interdicted by a parked car.

The floral displays are not as good since they started this trendy idea of colour schemes.
My childhood memories are of pansies and tulips in all different colours.
Strange, though, that the tree blossom isn't out yet.
