Stripes can definitely trigger migraine.

Scroll this photo up and down and you should notice the flicker.

I have only the occasional visual migraine, nothing more serious, but the above makes even me feel queasy and uncomfortable.

Our eyes are constantly moving, even when we think they are still, so I guess that close stripes like this would create some kind of flicker that the brain cannot cope with. My first visual migraine was after sitting by a train window, the next was in a shop with a badly flickering fluorescent light. I have even had one triggered by looking at flickering gas flames whilst stirring a saucepan.

But strangely, I have only ever had it once from looking at my computer screen. I think that's because I use a matt screen (I cannot cope with the glossy ones), and always with some tungsten light nearby to neutralise it. My XP notebooks, which I use for photo-editing, are also matt and set to the lowest possible brightness.

Incidentally, I came across the particular XP notebook that had gone dead after I spilt tea on it. It now starts up and appears to be working again, apart from the cursor showing up as a mottled square.

Even cameras can't cope with it very well, as can be seen on this video,
which was inadvertently recorded on high definition.
