I'm curious as to how many guests chose the cold baths and whether they were cheaper than the hot ones. Also, whether breakfast was served in the bath or afterwards. I should think a cold bath would really whet the appetite.

The 'hot and cold' probably doesn't refer to the bath, but was the English way of advertising the fact that running water was available straight from the tap, in the days when many establishments only provided a washstand and jug.
