Somerset Levels
Anything from the large area known as the levels
Teasels are Turning
As you may be able to see by the light we are still taking care and only emerging as the sun goes down but sadly the seasons start to show signs of change,
Large for detail please.
Just Four, HFF
Four of almost a hundred of these beautiful birds in the late evening sun on North Drain, Somerset Levels,
I ask you to view large please
Wetlands Evening
An evening scene typical of the Somerset levels and a rhyne in need of rain to freshen the water, Note the Somerset spelling of the word Rhyne which in this part of country is used to describe drainage ditches.
Large for details please
Totney Drove HFF.
The majority of the Somerset level's are below sea level and are often peat based so roads and sometimes structure's succumb to movement caused by the wet and dry seasons,
If you are able to view large please note the surface on this well used drove (road) highlighted by the sunset.
Roads on the levels are almost always called Droves.
For some strange reason the location insists it's not Totney Drove but the map tells a different story.
Graze on!
The first time for ages we have seen evening mist start to form as the sun sets on the Somerset levels,
Large please for full effect
Stagnant Rhyne
The last throws of the days sunlight filter into the flowers and plants on the banks of a rhyne in the Somerset Levels,
Large for the detail please
Messy Eaters
Supper time on the Somerset Levels, three of a group that must have been approaching a hundred and the noise that the beaks made as they fed was amazing.
Large view recommended
Swans on the Levels
Continuing with the swan theme and possibly the last one of these for a while, around half of the number that were feeding or on the periphery, North Drain, Somerset Levels,
An August evening capture
Large please
Swan in winter Sunset
The late afternoon sun casts shadows across the Somerset levels as a solitary mute Swan cruises the North Drain
