The 180-Metre Roughcastle Tunnel was built as part of the Millennium Link project to carry the Edinburgh and Glasgow Union Canal beneath the World Heritage Site Antonine Wall which crosses the canal link. This was the first UK canal to be built for a 100 years and was built to replace the flight of locks that once joined the Union and Forth & Clyde Canals,

Our previous visit was some years ago, like you not long after Helix park was opened and this tunnel had no lights at that time., thank you.
