Boulder clay

Boulder clay
Boulder clay, in geology, is a deposit of clay, often full of boulders, which is formed out of the ground moraine material of glaciers and ice-sheets wherever they are found. It was the typical deposit of the Glacial Period in northern Europe and North America.
The cliffs around Filey are made of this clay and it explains the rapid erosion of the coastline due to sea wave action.

I can recall seeing this type of deposit.. over various visits to places.. obviously a softer material to other forms.. thanks for the info'.. it's good to learn these things...

Apparently present on the coast all the way up from Hornsea though obviously missing around Flamborough and Bempton Cliffs.
