59s Last Run Cab Ride 08/1972

Folder: Railway 1971 - 1980.
These photos of 5917 and 5920??? were taken on my commute in the Sydney area to Technical College one morning. 18/10/10 5920 is confirmed by a photo in Flickr member stanb662000 's collection. The three steam locos for shunting at Lithgow were withdrawn the same day, see. www.flickr.com/photos/grahamh_pix/sets/72157624923475176...

The lead loco number is forgotten. Looking through the steam in this photo the lead loco could be 5920, now confirmed. The second loco is 5917, and the pair are on their final run to Enfield in August 1972. 5917 was later chosen for preservation. People associated with a museum at Cowra own it and keep it in operating condition. 5917 is now 'The Picnic Train' main steam loco and so survives in preservation. This photo is while waiting for a path at Hornsby.
