Lets have a quick look through the railmotor. Look around at this end then walk through to the other end and then return to this door to exit.

Step up inside. Click on the PiPs.

Thanks David. These two cars were setup for the Qld Rail Commissioner in the early 90s. The pair were sold off with the freight business around 2010. It was used for driver training by the Aurizon (the business which bought the rail freight). When they had no more use for it it was put up for sale. DownsSteam won the tender principally due to the organisation's technical ability to maintain all its non-standard features.

Pretty slick piece of kit Graham. Is this the 2000 Class seen earlier in your stream?

Thanks Pete. Yes, this is same two cars. They originally had the swing-over seats throughout though the ones in this set now have a cloth rather than vinyl covering. The originals that I've seen were not airconditioned but these are. The original 150 HP diesel engines are replaced by 300 HP ones. The upgraded hydraulic transmission has four gears The galley sink has hot water heated by LP gas. The fridge runs on either gas or mains electricity. The inverter shown can boil a kettle or run a microwave and is suitable to charge mobiles and laptops. I found that each car has antennas to suit both the railway band and the Aus UHF CB band. CBs are fitted for talking between ends to facilitate direction reversal. A transportable two-way is used to talk with QR Train Control.

I guess I'll be showing my age if I tell you that the standard suburban trains in my time were hauled by PB15s! Rail motors were very rare on the south line, then only the old red style.
