The Shed 20230817 16 11 51 Pro
DownsSteam's Shed. C16 106 on the left and BB18 1/4 1037 on the right. Tomorrow, 18/08/23, at 10AM, glitches permitting, 106 will head out on Queensland Rail's track to go through testing prior to DS running steam hauled trains for the public to regional destinations.

106 is the reason for DownsSteam. The loco was built in Toowoomba in 1915 at the foundry which used to be here. 106 is the last surviving loco of the ~60 built there of several different types.

A very interesting image of the workshop, Graham, I hope 106 passed the tests with flying colours. I well remember the C16s from growing up in Brisbane near the rali lines, so sad this is the last remaining.

Thanks George. It must have been a good design in its day. Some C16s were loaned to the Commonwealth Railways for WW2 traffic where they were the NMB class. QR made some updates to them to get the C17. Something I read somewhere said they are 9% more efficient than a C16. The C17 is the most prolific QR steam loco in heritage operations. Also the Commonwealth railways NM class loco was basically a C17.

I have some lineside shots on 17th but had work to complete on the railmotor train on the 18th so only pre departure. I and another man were the light-up and lube crew for both days.
