No, my wife wasn't amused... This is the first one we've seen in the fourteen years we've lived here. Where I grew up in Sydney there many more of the Sydney variety to be found in the garden and a couple of times in the house. australianmuseum.net.au/sydney-funnel-web-spider

I had a similar close experience with a Blue Mountains variety one evening when putting the garbage out one evening. It was just outside the front door. We saw them occasionally in the garden. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadronyche_versuta
