The standpipe at the Brisbane end of the yard between the main and the loop. I am guessing that the tank on the hill is the supply for the standpipes. More info please.

yep quite correct, the water was pumped from the teviot crk at a time where there must of been less irregation upstream , because it was generally dry , while I lived there, it was flowing last week when I drove by though, Kagaru was a bustling little village in years gone by , and would have had as many as a dozen residences there and a line if the "linesmans" huts that is in previous pics, maybe ten of em, the stories go that there were 3000 yanks there in ww2 and they would land planes near the concrete water tank, they said they were mustangs but I doubt that , they would have been kittyhawks, in fact there was a box of aircraft cannon bullets found buried towards the end of the southern end of the " section" fettlers run as it was called, other times were spoken about when there were big camps of rail workers camped in tents there,
