The second nesting

The second nesting
World photography day. Mourning Doves nest for the second time in as many months inside my hanging flower basket. Today the second set of nestlings hatched. Parents are Ozzie & Harriet. This 2nd set I call Pete & RePete..The amazing part is they have no problem with me getting so close. I barely had to zoom.

Frans Schols, DOMCHO, sea-herdorf, @ngélique ❤️ and 14 other people have particularly liked this photo

It is certainly unusual that they let you approach so close. They are used to you, and they must love you;-))

Thanks. They were slightly skittish only the first hatch. But that passed quickly. I actually talk softly to them. No sudden moves. They even let me continue to water my plant so it doesn’t die..

Oh they are so cute, Gracie. I'm so glad they're used to you, so you can take these glorious pictures of them. It's funny seeing young birds where they look like hedgehogs with the stalks for feathers!!!

Jenny I find it amazing how trusting they are of me. I guess I just don’t present a threat. Or they’re so protective of the babies they won’t leave them. They did in the beginning with the first nesting. When I first started peeking before they hatched. Now I suppose they’re used to me.

Well, you provided such a great nesting area for them - of course you can come look *smile*

Did you know they would be there for your photograph for World Photography Day? Or was it a pleasant surprise?

I had a next made in the dry Christmas wreath on our front door (don't ask why it was still there in June), but they were smart enough not to put any eggs there.

Thanks for contributing this cheery photo for the event!

I knew they were in there and the eggs would hatch soon. It was a pleasant coincidence it was on the right day. I actually hadn't planned on adding a picture initially. But I thought this was a good entry... Thanks for your efforts putting it together.
