Palais Clock
We had lunch at this splendid venue, see PiP, on our 2019 trip to Adelaide, South Australia. It has a very modern interior, but still retains the impressive gantry bar in the upstairs bistro.

Palais SC103 Divider - Characterful building
SC103 Divider image - 2024
We had lunch at this splendid venue, on our 2019 visit to Adelaide, South Australia. It has a very modern interior, but still retains the impressive gantry bar in the upstairs bistro.
It happened to be the hottest day on record while we were in Adelaide 46.6C, slightly cooler at the coast.
The Maris Palais... This nostalgic relic of balmier days was built in 1922 by the Fricker Brothers on a 21-year lease. It was comprised of a beach kiosk, bathing pavilion and large dance hall.
At ground level, the Bathing Pavilion provided lockers and showers, as well as the hire of bathing costumes, beach shelters, etc. The first floor housed the café, tearooms and dance hall.
A number of clubs met regularly at the Palais, and in later years the building was used by the Semaphore Surf Life Saving Club.
For many years, the reinforced concrete structure stood in derelict condition, but was renovated in the early 90’s, maintaining its distinctive 1920’s architecture and reopened as the The Semaphore Palais Hotel & Function Centre.

Ship's clock
The Cunard cruise ship MS Queen Elizabeth. Cruise from Melbourne to Brisbane via Sydney.
The opportunity to experience a grand ship, in elegant Art Deco style, a real yesteryear feeling. Excellent service, and we enjoyed our Brittania Club stateroom, with balcony.
Queen Elizabeth is almost identical in design to Queen Victoria, although because of the steeper stern, at her introduction into service the passenger capacity was slightly higher with up to 2,058 compared to Queen Victoria's 2,014.
The ship also features a Britannia Club section of the main restaurant, which is a feature popular on Queen Mary 2, but not available on Queen Victoria. This service allows passengers in the Britannia staterooms to have single seating dining arrangements, without having to upgrade to the more expensive Grills classes.

Daylight saving time south of Brisbane. I didn't change my camera time, and it recorded 11.22am.
Must check the setting as it should be a one hour difference...

The story of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island ... an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s.
The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald's third book, stands as the supreme achievement of his career.

Art Deco dancing
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers
Although Astaire worked well with several leading ladies throughout his career, his partnership with Rogers had a special chemistry...
Their dance routines, often in the midst of sumptuous Art Deco settings, were intricate tap or graceful ballroom numbers that served as sophisticated statements of romantic love.
