Both good images. But I say the light and shadows in the original shot is actually what makes this picture very good ;-) Very good light makes the topic look almost 3 dimensional.

Very successful this mutation !
Between 1880 and 1886, Van Gogh painted in dark tones. He then preferred browns and grays. The most representative painting of this period is undoubtedly "The potato eaters".
