Fun at the Falls

The percentage of people smiling is very high at Niagara Falls, at least on the Canadian side. The American side is more upscale. I once watched a show on the Buffalo PBS station about how Niagara Falls, New York, was trying to figure out how to get as many tourists as Niagara Falls, Ontario without being as crass and vulgar. There are a lot of happy people at Niagara-on-the-Lake, though, which is definitely not crass and vulgar. This is the Canadian Falls, according to Canadians, or the Horseshoe Falls, according to everyone else. It is in fact shared by Canada and the US (we get most of it, though).

Ten Thousand Buddhas Stupa, Niagara Falls, Ontario

More Niagara Falls today. This is the World Peace Ten Thousand Buddhas Sarira Stupa Temple, or Cham Shan Temple, in Niagara Falls, Ontario. It is 6 km/4 mi downriver from the Falls, but still within the city. More about the temple here: www.visiting-niagara-falls.com/chamshantemple.html I posted a similar view on Flickr years ago, but this is a different shot. I tried eliminating all the negative space here but decided I lliked it this way.

Above Devil's Hole Rapids

July 17, 2021 We don't have mountains in Ontario, and I don't take many pictures of flowers, so I have only posted two photos so far in PICTURES FOR ANDY. a group set up to encourage Andy Rodker in his recovery from Covid-19. Today I was excited to learn that Andy was working in the gym daily with the goal of getting back to rock-climbing in the mountains. And then I realized that while we don't have mountains here, we certainly have rock. So here, Andy, is a photo of the Niagara Gorge and best wishes for your return to the challenge of rock-climbing. ===== The Niagara Gorge is a 12-km stretch along the Niagara River that was carved out by Niagara Falls as they receded upstream at a rate of a kilometre every thousand years. This was taken on the Ontario side at Devil's Hole Rapids just north of the whirlpool with the American side in the background.. Both sides of the gorge (Ontario and New York) have well-tended parkways and many places to stop to enjoy the view.

The floral clock at Niagara Park, on the Canadian side of the Niagara Gorge about halfway between Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake, opposite Lewiston, NY on the American side.
