Pool of London
The Pool of London was an important part of London's economy from the 7th century to the mid-20th, when the shipping trade moved to container ports on the coast. This postcard is probably from the 1930s; another card in the series shows a number of buses, none dating from later than the early Thirties

Thanks, Keith. Yes, downstream from the bridge the buildings are all post-WWII today.

I found a four-minute clip of it, Denis -- it seems to be my type pf movie. I like British film noir -- for one thing the British, to my mind, were masters of the lighting needed for suspense, mystery, and so on. And of course the views of the City just after WWII were fascinating. Thanks for the recommendation; I'll look for some place to rent it. Plenty of places to buy it cheap, too.
