Although they are vegetarians, hippos are very aggressive and are one of the deadliest mammals on earth. Approximately 500 people die each year in Africa from hippo attacks. This hotel has placed tires along the bank to discourage the hippos from joining their guests for afternoon tea.

Great shot, Esther!
Do the hippos really get discouraged by the tires, or are there still incidents from time to time?

Effectivement comme ils sont végétariens, les gens ne s’en méfient pas. Belle opportunité. Bravo.

Thank you all. I don't know whether the tires are a 100% solution. Hippos wander through other properties on the lake - usually after dark. Guests there are told not to walk outside after dark and there are guards armed with sticks supposedly to protect the guests from hippos.
