Les Etats-Unis ont choisi Montjoie Saint-Martin pour implanter le cimetière militaire Américain, grâce à sa vue sur le Mont Saint-Michel (PiP) et son positionnement dans la « Contre-attaque » Allemande, suite à la percée d’Avranches du 3 Juillet 1944.

Ce cimetière d’une superficie de 14 hectares, rassemble les corps de 4410 soldats américains dans 4408 tombes, morts au cours de la 2nd guerre mondiale et la plupart au cours des campagnes de Normandie et de Bretagne en 1944.

The United States chose Montjoie Saint-Martin to establish the American military cemetery, thanks to its view of Mont Saint-Michel (PiP) and its position in the German "Counter-attack", following the breakthrough of Avranches on 3 July 1944.

This cemetery of 14 hectares, gathers the bodies of 4410 American soldiers in 4408 graves, dead during the 2nd World War and most of them during the campaigns of Normandy and Brittany in 1944.
