A fine beech

A fine beech
The popular main footpath through the upper reaches of the steep-sided Limb Valley runs halfway up the northern flank of the the valley side. To follow the Limb Brook itself in the valley bottom can entail a somewhat muddy adventure, often through a tangle of undergrowth, fallen trees and branches. Not many people choose this way, so one can be quite alone and mostly hidden from everyone else.

I was interested in the shape, colours and textures of the trunk and root of this rather fine beech situated a few metres from the brook. My stand of 'favourite' beeches is visible on the skyline.
