Square - are where he most explicitly and successfully expressed his
brand of architectural eclecticism and are, therefore of significance.
Though the steel-frame is clearly expressed internally and implied
externally by generous, regularly-spaced glazing, it is embellished
by striking brickwork with a pierced parapet and red diaper patterns
– both Gothic motifs. Of equal interest is the charming entrance in the
manner of Sir John Soane, which is in green slate and surmounted by
with an incised panel by J. Ledger."
- from the fascinating history of the building here which has dozens of lovely architectural drawings and photos.
