On 2nd Nov 1897, the station at Kyle opened for business. Situated about 82 miles West of Inverness, it is now the only staffed station this side of Dingwall.
Sadly, the steam-heated Mk1 coaches, hauled by class 24, 26 or 37 locomotives, have long gone. Today, Scotrail considers a 2-car class 158 to be suitable transport for one of "The Great Railway Journeys of the World".

The station building at Kyle, viewed from the turning area at the bottom of the approach ramp. Amongst the vast array of signs is the "flower bed train", which has recently been nicely planted-out. These planters have been appearing at stations all over Scotland. Surely, a nicer location could be found for this one.
158711 and the Misty Isle

A July afternoon in Kyle. Beyond 158711, the Isle of Skye is shrouded in mist, clouds and rain. An eight-coach train, full of day-trippers, had just arrived into Platform 1. A large percentage of them never left the shelter of the train or the station.
