We took the gondola ride from Bagnères-de-Luchon to the ski resort above it. The 1200m rise takes over 10 mins and gives amazing views. At the top the views continue to be amazing, though you may have to wait for clouds to blow through to see them!

This is one of the Cathar Castles in SW France.The photo was taken from the highest point in the castle - quite a hike up in the heat!
