En 1513, Azemmour tomba sous domination portugaise jusqu'en 1541.
après la prise d'Agadir par le sultan saadien Mohammed Cheikh, le roi du Portugal D. João III, décida d'abandonner Azemmour, ainsi que Safi, et en 1550 Asilah. Sous les Saadiens, Azemmour marchande avec l'Europe jusqu'en 1672. Moulay Ismaïl Ben Chérif (de la dynastie alaouite) interdit ses échanges et s'empara d'Azemmour.

In 1513 Azemmour fell under Portuguese rule until 1541.
after the Agadir taken by the Saadian Sultan Mohammed Sheikh, the king of Portugal D. João III decided to abandon Azemmour and Safi, and in 1550 Asilah. Under the Saadian, Azemmour market with Europe until 1672. Ben Cherif Moulay Ismail (of the Alawite dynasty) prohibits exchanges and grabbed Azemmour.
