Au VIIe siècle, Azemmor est l'une des principales cités du royaume amazigh des Berghouatas avec Anfa, El Jadida et Safi. Au XIe siècle, Youssef Ibn Tachfin, le troisième souverain almoravide, s'empare d'Azemmour et y construit des mosquées et une fontaine.

In the seventh century,Azemmour is one of the main cities of the kingdom of Amazigh Berghouata with Anfa, El Jadida and Safi. In the eleventh century, Youssef Ibn Tachfine, the third Almoravid king, seizes Azemmour and built mosques and fountain.
