The Nairn Circular - 11 miles

When someone hands you a map showing the route for a circular track around the environs of Nairn, in retrospect it would have been wise to ask what sort of distances were involved, before setting off, having already done a 4 mile walk in the morning with Skokie as part of the elderly neighbour's duty roster of volunteer dog walkers. Fifteen miles and 33,000 steps later, we both agreed we had overdone the walking yesterday!
The route up the River Nairn towards Cawdor is an attractive one initially, before crossing on country roads to Delnies Wood, west of Nairn, and eventually heading north and striking the beach at the Moray Firth. It was a remarkably clear day, with views across to the Cromarty Firth and the hills beyond, eventually skirting the Nairn Golf Club, a course I used to play with Fraser McKenzie, my former Grindlays boss from my Jordan years, on his trips up to his old home town. Passing Tilda Swinton's home we finally joined the track running along the sea front of Nairn, reaching the harbour where we had left the car in Fishertown, with a considerable sense of relief, by early evening.
