Moray Coastal Trail, from Arthur's Bridge to Spey Bay 25 04 2019

The last leg of the Moray Coastal Trail section of the 93 mile Moray Loop was completed today, in relative warmth and sunshine. It took us through the woods just behind the coastline from Lossiemouth to Spey Bay, eventually joining the shingle bank separating land from sea, and past a long line of WWII anti-tank traps and machine-gun posts, bringing home how seriously the UK took the threat of invasion, eighty years ago. The path crossed the end of a military firing range, which was active this morning. A female sentry at its western boundary stopped us to confirm that it was "live", but obligingly radioed in to request a temporary ceasefire to allow us to walk across to the eastern sentry post, without the danger of being shot by some wildly inaccurate sniper. We made it to Kingston of a coffee with an old friend and some of her freshly baked banana bread, before heading through Garmouth, where King Charles II signed the Solemn League and Covenant in 1650, to our final destination of Spey Bay in time for an excellent lunch at the Dolphin Centre.
